My Story:

I have been overweight my entire life, but I realized just how obese I had become when attending a water park with my two young daughters. After climbing to the top of one of the slides, I was so winded that I literally had to sit on the steps and catch my breath. This was pretty humiliating as I watched parents my age run past to get on the ride with their children, and I was stopped due to my weight. I started Atkins the following week and have never looked back. The hardest part of Atkins for me was attending potlucks at church functions. I found it pretty irresistible to avoid the dessert end of the tables, but I realized that life is not just about sweets. It’s about living. Being healthy is so much more important than the piece of cake or cookie at the end of the serving line. The easiest part of Atkins is going out to eat. I can eat fantastic food at pretty much any restaurant out there without having to worry about counting calories. Salmon, steak, and yummy salads have become my favorite things to eat. Atkins is easy to maintain when you are not feeling as if you are starving. After years of yo-yo dieting, I would lose weight but then gain it back. With Atkins, the weight has come off and stayed off! It took me about a year and a half to lose 110 pounds, and I went from 260 pounds to 150 pounds and a pant size of 28 to a size 12 (that is starting to get loose).

Today, I am no longer the “fat” mom. I can do everything that I want to with my girls (run, ride bikes, roller skate) and most of all I can fit on all the rides at amusement parks. I can walk into my girls’ classrooms knowing that I look and feel my best and that they won’t be known as the children with the fat mom. I am healthier and happier than I have ever been, and I have a confidence about me that was seriously lacking when I was obese. I look forward to clothing shopping now and just getting out and about to explore the world. In a world surrounded by “strict diets and calorie counting” Atkins is the only way that I have been able to lose weight. I never feel deprived; instead, it’s just the opposite. I am full and never hungry, with a new energy level for life!

Favorite Atkins Friendly Food: I love the new Atkins Endulge cookies that are available. It allows me to indulge in a sweet without losing my stride. The peanut butter cookie is the best thing ever.
