U.S. Dietary Guidelines: Time for a Change!

Every five years, the U.S. government releases its dietary guidelines, which are supposed to help Americans make healthy food choices. These guidelines also provide guidance for national nutrition policies and programs. When the U.S. Dietary Guidelines were first established 30 years ago, the original recommendation to avoid fat spurred the overconsumption of starches, sugars and carbohydrates. The result? U.S. obesity rates have doubled in the last 30 years.

You can make your voice heard in this health crisis! Let our government know that the 2015 U.S. Dietary Guidelines should be:

  • Backed by a robust array of current and credible science, not one-size-fits all assumptions that a low-fat/high-carb diet is good for everyone
  • Based on the latest research and standardized data, which recognizes that:
  • Saturated fat is not as bad as previously thought, and should not be linked to an increased risk for heart disease
  • Low-carb diets are effective and have a positive impact on weight loss and diabetes reduction
