Basic Tomato Sauce
Cooking tip: Make your low carb tomato sauce extra chunky by stirring in extra fresh diced tomato. Just be sure to calculate the extra net carbs.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 medium (2-1/2" diameter) Onions
  • 1 teaspoon leaf Basil (Dried)
  • 1/2 stalk, medium (7-1/2" - 8" long) Celery
  • 28 ounces Crushed Tomatoes (Canned)
  • 1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Directions:

Enjoy this versatile low carb marinara with baked meatballs and low-carb or shirataki pasta, as well as sautéed zucchini, onions, and peppers. Each serving of basic tomato sauce is 1/2 cup.
  1. Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Dice the white onion, celery and garlic; add to pan and saute until the vegetables are very soft, about 6 minutes. Add basil and cook, stirring, 30 seconds.
  2. Stir in tomatoes. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, partially covered, until thickened, about 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Serve hot
