Cooking tip: We love no-oven meals for hot days, and this one will leave your taste buds happy. There are so many ingredients you can take from refrigerator to skewer for a simple, cold meal. But the best part might just be the dipping sauce or drizzle. Pickle juice is used to bring umami and tang to the mayonnaise-based sauce we use in this recipe, but the possibilities are endless. Choose your flavor profile and adapt this idea for great late summer meals your whole household will enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 slouse cooked bacon FNDDS
  • 3/4 ounce cheddar cheese FNDDS
  • 1/16 teaspoon black pepper, ground USDA
  • 3 slices turkey lunchmeat FNDDS
  • 3 eas fresh red cherry tomatoes USDA
  • 1/2 teaspoon dill pickle juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard, prepared USDA
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise USDA
  • 3 ounces black forest ham DiLusso
  • 3 eas fresh iceberg lettuce, medium, leaf FNDDS

Directions:

Equipment note: You will need 3 4-inch skewers for this recipe.
  1. On each skewer, thread one folded slice of turkey, one folded slice of ham, 1/3 piece of bacon, a ¼-ounce square of cheese, 1 cherry tomato and a folded piece of lettuce.
  2. In a small cup, use a fork to combine mayonnaise, mustard, pickle juice and black pepper. Drizzle 1 teaspoon sauce over each skewer and serve. Three skewers as described are one serving.
