My Story
OUR STORY:
My husband and I started the Atkins program three years ago after seeing the book at our local bookshop, Chapters. My husband actually started the program as a way to support me.
Mark started this diet at 275 lbs. And I began at 212 lbs. My blood pressure was high at 140/85.
OUR GOALS:
Mark and I found the diet easy to follow, and for the first time on a diet we were not hungry at the end of the day. We found when we went out to restaurants it was not difficult to order off the menu.
The biggest obstacles we encountered came from people spouting myths of how the diet is more harmful than helpful. But we argued and continue to argue that Atkins works – after all, in all the years and many diets we’ve followed, Atkins is the one that shows results.
HOW ATKINS HELPED US GET THERE:
For the last two years, Mark has maintained a healthy 195 lbs. He’s also increased his activities and has received his black belt in Karate and now teaches Karate four times a week. He also enjoys playing hockey without carrying all that extra weight. Mark will have treats on weekends such as his ice cream but is quick to get back on track during the week.
I lost weight when I started Atkins the first time but unfortunately my mother passed away and I turned to food and put some weight back on in December of 2008. But since then, I have lost 43 lbs. and have been back on Atkins and loving it faithfully ever since. I enjoy the coconut bars as well as the peanut butter bars. I also have sensitivity to gluten, so this diet is exactly what I need to stay healthy.
Today, my blood pressure is a healthy 110/60 and my activities have increased as well. I weigh 165 lbs. (down from that original 212) – and I keep losing.
We love Atkins and we enjoy the lifestyle changes we have made for ourselves and family. Atkins will always be a part of our lives.
