WHY COURTNEY LIVES ATKINS

Courtney’s healthy eating and living tips

“IT’S A VERY SATISFYING
WAY TO LIVE AND EAT.”

How does a successful actress balance work, family and
life? Fad diets? Obsessive exercise? Not Courtney
Thorne-Smith. Here are a few no-nonsense suggestions
from Courtney on a number of subjects.

On fad diets:

“In my experience, short-term diets are not a long-term
solution. I didn’t find peace until I found a way of eating
that satisfied my hunger and kept my weight stable
without the feeling that I was missing out on all of the
fun.”

On the Atkins Nutritional Approach:

“The peace I mentioned came through discovering the
Atkins Nutritional Approach. And I would recommend
the program to anyone who wants to live a happier life. I
would say to read the whole book before you start. Don’t
do what I did the first time: read the first few pages and
think the whole program is the first two weeks called
Induction. I think that’s why so many people think Atkins
doesn’t work; they try to live long term on less than 20
carbs a day, which is very difficult. Living a low carb
lifestyle should actually incorporate a lot of vegetables and low glycemic fruits. It’s a very
pleasant and satisfying way to live and eat.”

On sweets and snacks:

“I find the Atkins Approach greatly reduces my craving for sweets, but you don’t have to
give up that taste altogether. The Atkins bars are all great, and a lifesaver during sweet
cravings. As far as other snacks, I also love turkey and cheese wrapped in lettuce leaves
with a dollop of mayonnaise. My all time favorite though, has to be almonds.”

On fitness:

“My fitness program is very simple, which is great because it leaves a lot of time to play
with my son. I don’t exercise to keep my weight down now, but to feel stretched and toned.
I walk with my son every morning for an hour and then do twenty minutes of Pilates and
Yoga stretches while my son naps. Considering I used to exercise for several hours a day,
this represents amazing freedom for me.”
