Starting a Diet and Achieving Healthy New Year’s Resolutions

Each January, millions of individuals make New Year’s resolutions and make personal promises to better themselves in the New Year. While some of these promises might be more difficult than others, healthy New Year’s resolutions are the most actively undertaken. Whether you are starting a diet or promising yourself to spend more days at the gym, Atkins has some great tips for dieting success in the New Year.

Be Realistic

The key to starting a diet and achieving successful weight loss is to be realistic. Set realistic expectations for weight loss or diet goals and you will be sure to succeed. First set a goal weight, write it down and set reasonable expectations for achieving that goal weight. For example, it wouldn’t be realistic to lose 30 pounds in a week! It could be easier to break down your weight loss into 4 to 8 pound increments and check in with yourself every two weeks.

Start Slow

Starting slow is also important for first time dieters. This goes hand-in-hand with being realistic. Don’t think, “Less is better” on Atkins. Follow a well-constructed Atkins Diet as outlined in the New Atkins Made Easy. Doing Atkins more aggressively then written could cause you to lose track of your dieting goals and fall off the radar. With Atkins, there is also the option to start at a higher phase of the program, depending on your goals and lifestyle. Whether you are kick starting weight loss in Phase 1 or developing lifetime weight loss maintenance in Phase 2, 3, or 4, Atkins has a phase for everyone.

Gain Support

Support is a great tool for those that are new to dieting. If you feel yourself starting to slip, join Atkins online community, call a designated ‘dieting coach’ or mentor to get you back on track. This can be a friend, spouse or even a co-worker. Having someone on the same page as you will make you feel more empowered!
